Motorcycle Routes - Scotland
South West Coastal 300
Starting in Dumfries, cruise along the Solway Firth whilst taking in the views of the Ayrshire coast. Head inland to explore the Southern Highlands and visit Scotland’s most southerly point, Mull of Galloway and the highest village, Wanlockhead. Whether you’re looking to do the SWC300 in a few days or a week, the SWC300 is a gem of a route - showcasing Scotland’s most impressive coastlines and seaside hotspots of Ayrshire.
North Coast 500 Motorcyle Route
The North Coast 500 starts and ends in Inverness, known to be Scotland’s very own ‘route 66’, highlighting the very best of the Scottish Highlands. Five days are recommended for this route, however, if you’re looking to do more than cruise the road, take a week off and enjoy the 500 miles of impressive scenery whilst enjoying the pubs, distilleries and museums along the way. A worthwhile route to take your time with, taking in the fantastic sights with plenty of picturesque views.
Motorcycle Routes - Lake District
Honister Pass
The Honister Pass forms an impressive scenic motorcycle route, starting from the busy town of Keswick and includes access to the surrounding fells, passing Buttermere and Derwent Water.
The Honister Slate Mine is close by the pass - this might be worth a stop as it’s a popular tourist attraction. The road is said to become challenging after this point, as it is steep and narrow with a gradient of 1 in 4. However, it’s usually a relatively quiet route so traffic shouldn’t be too much of a concern.
The route heads along the edge of Derwent Water showcasing some beautiful landscapes and views, passing through the village or Seatoller and along the banks of Buttermere. A popular motorcycle route not to be missed.
Hardknott & Wrynose Pass
Hardknott Pass is a single track which runs between the minor road in Eskdale and Duddon Valley. Starting at Santon Bridge, cruise through Wrynose Pass and continue to Ambleside. The route is described as 'one of the most challenging riding routes in Britain', whilst also sharing the title of the steepest road in Britain with a gradient of 1 in 3. However, the twisting route offers a very fun UK motorcycle tour.
Although it’s considered a tough drive, the views which the route offers in return are very much worthwhile. You’ll witness first-hand the rugged and secluded areas of the Lake District, passing some fantastic attractions, such as the Birks Bridge and Three Shire Stone. The best time to ride would be midweek, as weekends in summer are particularly busy with traffic.
Be sure to add these routes to your motorcycle route plan and let us know how you get on!
