Beginning in 1976 with the opening of a BMW retailer in Cockermouth, Cumbria, our story has always focused on delivering exceptional customer service.
From one BMW retailer to a company of over 1,000 employees and over thirty locations throughout the North of England and South Scotland, we have grown into one of the UK’s leading independent automotive groups.
As a trusted partner to BMW, MINI, Jaguar, Land Rover, Kia, Volvo, INEOS, BMW Motorrad and Honda Motorcycles, we have built lasting relationships with the world's leading automotive brands. Our Timeline
Founded as a BMW dealership in Cockermouth.
1994 - Lloyd Land Rover
Acquired Fawdington Ltd, which is now known as Lloyd BMW Newcastle.
Lloyd Carlisle BMW premises moved from Kingstown Broadway to Grearshill Road, with MINI taking over the former BMW site in Carlisle.
2005 - Lloyd Jaguar
We acquired Prestons BMW and MINI dealerships which are now known as Lloyd BMW and MINI Colne.
Acquired Derek Woodman, now known as Lloyd BMW and MINI Blackpool.
Acquired Croall Bryson, which has become Lloyd Land Rover Kelso.
2015 - Lloyd BMW and MINI South Lakes
Opened used car retailer ‘Lloyd Premium Cars’ in Blackpool.
Acquired Ripon Land Rover in North Yorkshire, which has been renamed Lloyd Land Rover Ripon.
Opened used car retailer ‘Lloyd Used Car Centre’ in Carlisle.
Took on the Kia franchise serving Carlisle and Dumfries.
2021 - Jaguar Land Rover York
Acquired Rayrigg Motors retailer centres in Morecambe and Windemere, now known as Lloyd Kia South Lakes.
Acquired P.V. Dobson retailer centre in Levens near Kendal, now known as Lloyd South Lakes – Volvo Cars.
Opened 4x4 specialist retailer Lloyd AllRoad in Carlisle, with its state-of-the-art INEOS Grenadier showroom built on Kingstown Broadway.
Lloyd Select was introduced to the Lloyd portfolio. Representing a group wide re-brand of our used car operations, Lloyd Select has two standalone sites in Newcastle and Blackpool and aims to stock only the finest hand-picked used cars, attributing to them an industry leading bundle of benefits.
2024 – Lloyd Volkswagen and Kia West Cumbria
Acquired Stratstone BMW & MINI Tyneside, now known as Lloyd North Tyneside BMW & MINI.
