Can you share a lesson or skill you've learned during your apprenticeship so far that you have found particularly valuable?

MEET BETH - APPRENTICE ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT

Tell us a bit about what your apprenticeship involves and your current role.
"My current role is Apprentice Accounts Assistant and I'm based at Lloyd Carlisle BMW. Every Wednesday, I attend Carlisle College to complete the AAT Level 4 qualification, I have 4 more exams to complete before I have finished this. Day to day, my job consists of allocating customer payments, inputting sales and purchase ledger invoices and chasing debtors. I have started to complete new tasks for example, the monthly pay run to the suppliers, because this helps me with my college course as I have to constantly be expanding my knowledge to be able to complete the course."

What are you enjoying the most about your apprenticeship?
"The thing I enjoy the most about my apprenticeship is becoming more confident in my role as I continue to pass the exams and go onto the next levels of the course. Everyone at work is very helpful and friendly and I always feel like I can ask for their support if I need it. I am also given opportunities at work to expand my knowledge and do new tasks, so this makes work a lot more enjoyable as it challenges me."

MEET KIERAN - IT SUPPORT TECHNICIAN APPRENTICE

What does a typical day in your role look like as an IT apprentice?
"I am an IT apprentice, based at Lloyd AllRoad, and my role can vary greatly – One of the things I love about it is one day can be completely different to the next. My typical day can range from setting up computers or fixing network issues to exciting project work which will affect the whole company. There is never a boring moment!"

What advice would you give to someone who is looking to start an apprenticeship?
"Do it! An apprenticeship is a great way to get into the field you want to be in. Have a look around and you are sure to find something you will enjoy – I have never looked back!"

MEET EWAN - PARTS APPRENTICE

Tell us a bit about what you get up to as a Parts Apprentice?
"As a Parts Apprentice at Lloyd BMW Newcastle, I always have a job to do. Usually, these jobs vary largely in terms of complexity or importance from day-to-day, for example some days I will be doing surcharge or new part returns, which, although very important to do, isn't something that takes complete priority to most of the parts staff due to the fast-paced nature of the role. Whereas on other days I may be responsible for something like the BMW and MINI workshop daily pre-picks, these are very important as, if done correctly, it allows for a far more efficient working environment. These are basically what the technician use to get the specific parts needed for their allocated jobs; thus, it is vital that I get each part correct as they have allotted time for each job and any inconvenience eats into this valuable time.

Can you share a specific project you worked on and feel proud about?
"There are many jobs that I have been involved with that have made me feel proud. Specifically, though the one I would say I am the proudest of as of now would be the ongoing project of organizing the customers stored winter wheel sets, I feel this as its the first time I have been fully trusted and basically unsupervised to do something on quite a large scale. Though a lot of these wheels haven't been moved in several months, they do belong to customers and also cost a lot of money and thus need to be handled with a good amount of care and they do need to be tracked. Because of this I have made a table from scratch outlining the exact location of each wheel set in the storage container, something that needed updating. This is now used to locate the sets and clearly shows where is available for further wheel storage, sets that I will be moving over the next week or so."

MEET CORBAN - SERVICE ADVISOR APPRENTICE

Tell us a bit about what your apprenticeship involves and your current role as Trainee Service Advisor.
"I am a Service Advisor based at Lloyd Land Rover York, which involves looking after clients and giving them the best experience with JLR. Some things I do as an apprentice involves filing, client updates, bookings, face to face interactions, teamwork, and having regular contact with colleagues and clients."

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?
"I have chosen to do an apprenticeship because it gives me the opportunity to learn whilst working full time. Being an apprentice brings benefits such as qualifications and brings new opportunities into a working environment. Being an apprentice Service Advisor is great as you meet many different people and build different relationships creating a great environment to work in."
