Charged for Success: Dennin Swaddle's Superb EV Pass

This week at Lloyd North Tyneside, we celebrate Technician Dennin Swaddle’s superb Level 3 hybrid/EV vehicle pass.

With the everchanging electric future of vehicles, it is imperative now more than ever to prep our next generation of technicians with the knowledge and skills essential to safety service and repair EV vehicles.

Dennin has devoted himself to his studies, excelling in his assessments and paving his way to a long and successful technical career.

We caught up with him as he reflected on this superb achievement...

Hi Dennin, tell us what first inspired you to become a vehicle technician.

“I take inspiration from my dad, who always tinkered away with cars, so naturally I quickly followed in his footsteps after leaving school.”
 

Tell us what topics were covered in your Level 3 hybrid/EV training.

“There are many key areas of EV that are included within the course to help ensure the safety of the vehicles and my colleagues. These included how to safely disconnect and remove high voltage components from a full electric HV vehicle and how to use Ohms law and Power law.”

What was the most valuable thing you learned from your apprenticeship?

“Communication, teamwork, time management, and how to handle pressure, as well as gaining a strong work ethic and an understanding of workplace etiquette.”

What advice would you give someone thinking of starting a technician apprenticeship?

“I would tell them to learn the basics first, a simple understanding of how a vehicle works and runs before getting into any more complicated components or fault finding etc. You will definitely benefit from perfecting the basics. However, you will be taught everything you need to know throughout your apprenticeship”

What’s next on your training journey?

“Next up is a diagnostic course to learn how to find faults and rectify them efficiently, then my Level 4 Hybrid and Seniors.”
